This is a decor publication for people who don’t have square footage on their side.
Most home decor writing assumes you have walls you can paint, floors you can swap, and a separate room for every activity. I assume the opposite. The readers here live in studios, rentals, one-bedroom apartments, and small homes where the kitchen, the living room, and the home office are sometimes the same twelve feet of floor.
I write for one specific person: someone under about 1000 square feet who is tired of advice built for houses they will never live in.
Who this site is for
- Renters who can’t drill into a wall without risking the deposit.
- Studio dwellers running a whole life out of 400 square feet.
- Small-home owners choosing between a reading chair and a real desk, because both will not fit.
- Anyone shopping for a specific problem (a sofa that clears a 32-inch doorway, a rug that hides pet hair, a lamp that fits a shallow nightstand) instead of just browsing pretty rooms.
The point of view
Opinionated. Every roundup picks a winner and says why. I don’t publish “10 great options” lists where all ten are somehow equally great. That is not a recommendation, that is a menu.
Renter-safe first. If a piece needs permanent installation, I say so. When there is a removable version that gets you 80 percent of the look with none of the risk, that is usually the pick. No-drill is the default here, not the afterthought.
Honest, and the opposite of a listicle farm. I would rather stand behind six things I believe in than pad a list to twelve to hit a word count.
Editorial standards (how I pick)
Every product on this site clears the same bar before it earns a spot:
- It has to be real and buyable. I only cover items that are actually in stock on a live retailer page. If a pick sells out or gets discontinued, it comes off the list.
- I verify every pick myself. I open the current product page, check the real dimensions against apartment constraints (doorways, elevators, shallow walls), and read the critical reviews, not just the glowing ones.
- I tell you who it is NOT for. Every recommendation names the catch: the sofa that is comfortable but heavy, the shelf that holds books but not a TV. A pick with no downside listed is a pick I have not really used.
- No fake five-star reviews. I don’t run reviews where everything is perfect. If I can’t find an honest reason to warn you about something, I keep digging until I do.
